SWD powervolleys Düren have made an important strategic decision for the future: managing director Tomas Kocian-Falkenbach’s contract is now open-ended. The 37-year-old has held the key role behind the scenes since ending his playing career in 2023.

Shareholder and sponsor Erich Peterhoff stresses that Kocian-Falkenbach has known the business for a long time. Even as a player he contributed strategically to making volleyball bigger in Düren. He thinks about volleyball around the clock and uses his knowledge to expand proven paths and break new ground. That is why the club is glad to keep a volleyball enthusiast and expert at the top.

Home matches as events

One of the new paths is turning home matches even more into events: spectators should experience not only top-level volleyball but an event. Examples are the show when the team walks on and the after-match party, which in each of the past two years was linked to one home match. Attendance has risen over these two years, even though the team has not yet made the breakthrough back to the very top.

The business management graduate is very confident that Düren will take the next step in the 2025/26 season. Under head coach Christophe Achten, the club saw very promising signs in the 2024/25 season for the team to build on.

Continuing the positive development

A return to the court, which was temporarily necessary last season because of serious injury problems, is not planned. He still keeps an eye on the court: together with Erich Peterhoff and sporting director Goswin Caro, Kocian-Falkenbach forms the trio that puts the team together with the head coach. By now, though, other topics carry great weight too. He will not stop until every home match of a season is sold out, he makes clear – the development is positive, but far from complete.

In the 2025/26 season the aim is to further strengthen the club’s position as the sporting flagship of the Düren region and to win new fans, friends and supporters. Should all home matches one day be sold out, that would not automatically mean farewell for Kocian-Falkenbach: then the club would set itself new, ambitious goals.
