Match report Season start at the League Cup
After ten weeks of preparation, SWD powervolleys Düren open their season at the League Cup in Hildesheim – against cup winners SVG Lüneburg.

Ten weeks of preparation are over: SWD powervolleys Düren play their first competitive match of the 2026/27 season on Friday at 11:00. Cup winners SVG Lüneburg are the first opponents at the League Cup in Hildesheim, where the eight best teams of last season compete for the first title of the year.
A strong opponent straight away
Head coach Christophe Achten is happy with that: Düren face a strong opponent, and it will show who is best able to deliver their potential this early in the season. He sees Lüneburg as favourites in the very first official Volleyball Bundesliga match of the season – but he would not mind if a favourite lost straight away.
Three matches in Hildesheim
All eight teams play three matches over the weekend. Only those who win on Friday and Saturday reach the final; for everyone else, Sunday decides the final placings. Achten calls it a demanding schedule with four matches in five days, as SWD powervolleys already open their Bundesliga season away in Rottenburg on Tuesday.
There is a question mark over hitter Jordan Canham, who has only trained on a reduced basis recently because of knee problems but is generally fit to play. Dyn streams the first match against Lüneburg live (subscription required).
