Allianz Team Blog Enjoying the journey: my first season in Germany
Libero Troy Gooch looks back on his first season in Düren – and explains why he is staying.

This season in Germany has been incredible. From the moment I arrived, everyone at the club and all the fans welcomed me with open arms. That kind of support made settling into a new environment so much easier, and I am truly grateful for it.
Living in a new country has been a great experience in itself. I really enjoyed getting to know the culture, exploring new places and embracing a different way of life. It was exciting and rewarding at the same time – something I will remember long after the season is over.
On the court it was just as special. The chemistry in our team was fantastic, which made every practice and every match something to look forward to. When a group genuinely enjoys playing together, it creates an atmosphere that pushes everyone to get better.
Some of my favorite moments came at our home matches. The energy of the crowd and the whole atmosphere are unbelievable – something every athlete should experience at least once. I still remember getting goosebumps at our first home match against Berlin. Those are the moments that remind you why you love this sport.
Our focus stayed fully on the semifinal until the very end. Even though we went out, this team achieved something big this season and earned third place.
That makes me all the happier to share that I have extended my contract for next season. It means a lot to me to continue this journey with the club, the team and the fans who made this experience so special.
