Team An internationally experienced playmaker from Estonia
2.04 meters and Estonia's first-choice setter: Robert Viiber takes over the setting.

SWD powervolleys Düren fill a key position: Robert Viiber will run the game as setter in the 2026/27 season. At 2.04 meters, the 29-year-old is exceptionally tall for a setter and has been the first choice of the Estonian national team for many years.
Viiber is happy the move worked out. He was looking for a reliable place where his wife, his two children and he would feel at home while he could work at the highest level. His long-standing contact with head coach Christophe Achten also mattered: the two had wanted to work together for years.
A real leader
Viiber most recently played in Narbonne (France) and before that in Innsbruck – alongside Kyle Paulson, who joined Düren in 2025 and has since extended his contract. Paulson describes him as a real leader on court and a very pleasant person. What Paulson told him about the professional yet family-like environment in Düren was important for Viiber, too.
Thrilling the fans
Achten looks forward to a setter with very good passing, especially overhead to the key opposite position. Viiber is also strong at the block and on serve and brings a lot of experience. Besides France and Austria, he has played in Romania, Italy, Portugal and the Czech Republic.
Despite his strengths, Viiber wants to improve in every area. At 29 he has not peaked yet – in international volleyball, the early to mid thirties are considered the best age for setters. With the team, he wants to win as many matches as possible, thrill the fans and show in European competition how strong Düren and the Bundesliga are.
