Team New assistant coach from Spain

SWD powervolleys Düren complete their coaching staff for the 2025/26 season: Spaniard Óscar Serna Asensio joins head coach Christophe Achten as assistant coach with immediate effect. The 26-year-old most recently worked as a scout for the Spanish team Santanderina, and before that in Almería and Soria. As a player he was a libero, but had to end his career two years ago because of an injury. Now he is leaving Spain to develop further in the Bundesliga.

The goal: head coach one day

In Spain Serna Asensio worked as a scout, in Düren he is now an assistant coach. His goal is to work as a head coach one day, he says. He shares the role alongside Achten with Düren institution Björn-Arne Alber. Former captain Michael Andrei, who has taken on the role of strength and conditioning coach, completes the staff.

A former teammate who had already worked under Achten in Belgium advised him to take the step. Jorge Rodríguez Guerra, assistant coach in Düren five years ago, also had a lot of good things to say about SWD powervolleys. The level in Germany is higher than in Spain, and he wants to grow from that, Serna Asensio says. He has already arrived in Düren and is looking forward to working with his new team.
